Last week was ‘Trustees Week’, highlighting the unsung heroes of the charity sector. Trustees ensure their charity has a clear strategy and that its work and goals are delivering on its mission. They are the ‘guardians of purpose’ for the organisation who ensure that the needs of the beneficiaries are at the heart of all activity. We invite you to meet our amazing team of Trustees.
As Doorstep Library moves into its 10th year we have recently recruited a number of new members to the Board, joining our existing team of committed individuals. Working to expand our reach and support more children, we recognise the value that our team of Trustees will bring to that process. Through their support and guidance, Doorstep Library aims to bring the magic of books and reading to even more children and families and the joy of volunteering to more individuals.
Meet the Trustees
Our Trustees bring a broad skill set to the Board, including finance, marketing, digital, IT, business, fundraising, HR and much more. They also come with experience from hugely differing backgrounds covering publishing, academia, education, social justice, health, construction and the list goes on. The team at Doorstep Library are delighted to be able to work alongside such a varied range of Trustees and we are all looking forward to working together to build and grow the charity’s work.
Claire Campbell – Claire is currently a Programme Director at Timewise, a social consultancy which helps organisations to create inclusive and flexible working practices. Her varied consultancy clients include the Greater London Authority, Royal Free NHS Trust, Turner Media, Credit Suisse and Manchester City Council. Claire has worked in people and organisational change for over 20 years, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and has a Masters in Work Psychology.
Annabel James (Chair) – Annabel has worked in the voluntary sector for over 20 years as a senior fundraiser and then as CEO. She now runs a consultancy working with a wide range of local, national and international charities on all aspects of funding and development. Annabel is the founder of Age Space, a one-stop online resource for anyone anxious about or caring for elderly parents and relatives.
Aileen Kane – Aileen is the Chief Operating Officer at the Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA) and works closely with government departments including DfE, Home Office, DIT, MOD, FCO, local authorities and other agencies to support over 600 independent and state boarding schools in the UK and overseas. She is a board member of the Boarding Schools Partnership group which aims to place vulnerable children into boarding schools and heads up BSA’s work to find places for refugee children escaping from conflict countries.
Amanda Lennon – Amanda is an asset management professional with over 20 years in the industry working for M&G Investments, one of the UK’s largest asset managers. During this time, she has held a number of senior leadership roles across all areas of the business including Investment, Operations and Distribution. Amanda has held the role of Global Marketing Director, where she was responsible for creating and executing global marketing campaigns and sponsorship arrangements including the renowned RHS Chelsea Flower Show and an annual large-scale advertising campaign across leading ski resorts in Europe.
Robert Mackenzie – Robert is a Chartered Accountant whose career includes 11 years investment banking in London, four years with an industrial development bank in Saudi Arabia, eleven years in the cement industry. In 1991, he helped establish a soft drink producer in Iran, and in 2000, he became CFO of Shorts International, where he is still Company Secretary. During 2003-5, Robert was CFO of Kids Company, and in 2004 he became FD of Harrison Housing, an almshouse charity, for 10 years. In 2000 Robert was appointed Hon Secretary of The Iran Society, a London-based educational charity, and Hon Treasurer in 2009. He was appointed Treasurer of Doorstep Library in 2013 and retires from the Board of Trustees at the end of 2019. We would like to thank him for his huge contribution to the growth of the organisation and wish him well in his retirement.
Olly Minton (Treasurer) – Olly is Head of Finance at Great Ormond Street Hospital, with responsibility for major projects including the construction and commissioning of clinical buildings, the rollout of systems and technology, and working with clinical teams to change ways of working. A qualified accountant and project manager with experience from working in five hospitals in London and the North East, as well as a healthcare charity.
Dr Hugh Rayment-Pickard – Hugh is Chief Strategy Officer and co-founder of education charity IntoUniversity which supports students from disadvantaged backgrounds to obtain a university place or another chosen aspiration. He previously taught philosophy at Goldsmiths College, London University and he has over 20 years’ experience in the not-for-profit sector.
Jeremy Trevathan – Jeremy is a highly experienced publisher with a demonstrated history of working in the publishing industry, currently head of Adult Publishing at Pan MacMillan. His division publishes authors as diverse as Ken Follett, Jeffrey Archer, Danielle Steel, Cormac McCarthy, Nelson Mandela and Joe Wicks.
